The Masterclass with True Detective screenwriter and producer Nic Pizzolatto was certainly a highlight of the Copenhagen TV Festival.
The HBO-series about a seventeen year long search for a serial killer in Louisiana is widely regarded as a masterpiece in modern TV history and earned critical acclaim for Pizzolatto’s writing, Cary Fukunaga’s direction and lead actors Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey.
Pizzolatto gave some insight into the process to getting the dark and brilliantly written series on air. Among the network notes to Nic Pizzolatto was suggestion to “give Rust Cohle at least a dog to make him more likable.” Pizzolatto: “you don’t have to like a character, you have to be fascinated by a character. Don’t give me your fear-based predictions.”
