On May 5 and 6, the digital media industry and creative media scene of Europe will once again gather in Berlin. For the second time, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, in cooperation with the Medienanstalt Berlin-Brandenburg and re:publica will host MEDIA CONVENTION in the STATION-Berlin creative hub. Following last year’s outstanding success, this cooperation has become even closer: For the first time, there will be just ONE ticket this year for ALL events.
MEDIA CONVENTION Berlin’s three stages will highlight a variety of topics in the areas of media business, media policy, media culture and journalism. As usual, re:publica will take place on multiple stages with a colourful programme on the theme of “Finding Europe”. Last year, MEDIA CONVENTION and re:publica attracted more than 6,000 visitors from Germany and abroad placing the event among the biggest and most important media-industry gatherings in Europe.
We survey the media landscape
Thematically, this year’s gathering will focus particularly on the tension between creative and technological processes – algorithms, search engines and social networks, video platforms and the YouTube generation, video-on-demand and subscription video-on-demand, and the future of television. Decision maker and experts from the digital economy, from television, radio and film, academia and the policy world will sit down and discuss current issues in media and network policy, media-market trends, and media-culture developments, surveying the current state of the media landscape. Executives will engage with Internet activists, and top broadcasters with app developers – all in an open and discursive way, across all media and platforms.
Elmar Giglinger, CEO, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg
“Of all the media locations in Germany, the capital region is the one in which creative tensions are most at home, and in which present and future always produce the most powerful mix – in the media industry as well as in other areas. For this reason, Berlin is also the right location for a diverse and innovative media conference that reflects the ongoing changes in the media landscape and brings together the various media worlds. “The closer integration between MEDIA CONVENTION Berlin and re:publica and the expanded partnership with the Medienanstalt Berlin-Brandenburg is an important, logical step, and makes MEDIA CONVENTION a uniquely attractive experience.”
MEDIA CONVENTION is hosted by Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg. It is produced in cooperation with the Medienanstalt Berlin-Brandenburg and re:publica, on behalf of the federal states of Berlin and Brandenburg. It takes place as a part of Berlin Web Week.
