David Sabel is the National Theatre’s first Director of Broadcast and Digital, appointed in 2009.  He trained as an actor at Northwestern University in Chicago and Ecole Jacques Lecoq in Paris.  After having worked as a chef for three years, he received an MBA from Cambridge University.  David launched National Theatre Live, the ground-breaking initiative to broadcast plays live from the National’s stages to cinemas worldwide, and continues to act as Executive Producer for the programme. He produced the National’s first documentary commission, Making War Horse, served as Executive Producer for Alan Bennett and the Habit of Art, which was BAFTA nominated and won the Royal Television Society Award for Best Arts Documentary.  He recently served as Executive Producer for the National Theatre’s critically acclaimed fiftieth anniversary broadcast celebrations, including a two-part BBC Arena documentary and Live from the National Theatre: Fifty Years on Stage, a performance aired live on BBC 2 and to cinemas.  He is currently working on a feature film adaptation of the National’s production, London Road
