Hakim’s interest in TV & media in general started very early, thanks to fascination with shows such as ‘Combat!’, ‘Starsky & Hutch’, ‘Solid Gold’, the emergence of 70’s disco fever & cheap cinema tickets in his hometown. After graduation from university where he studied TV Broadcasting & Production, Hakim spent nearly 3 years learning the ropes in TV commercial productions at an ad agency. A 6 months stint as a Theatre Manager followed where he met & made friends with some of Malaysia’s top theatre & stage play practitioners. A job offer with the then fledgling new TV station (Astro) as a Production Manager was the start of a long and exciting career in television for Hakim. In Astro, Hakim has assumed the roles of a TV Producer, Entertainment Executive Producer, Music TV Channel Manager and now as an AVP in the Content Development Unit, set up a few years back to assist with new ideas development for the various –in-house channels and also in adapting suitable international formats into local versions for the Malaysian audience. Hakim’s passion is in the creation process and the endless possibilities in conjuring up content that will surprise & mesmerize the viewers. With his colleagues in this unit, he has developed and worked on some of the most successful TV shows on Astro such as ‘Sehati Berdansa’, a dancing show format adapted from India, ‘Jangan Lupa Lirik’, adapted from ‘Don’t Forget The Lyrics’ and ‘Imam Muda’ (The Young Imam), an original concept from Astro with an Islamic skew and capturing international attention. Currently, Hakim is working with the team to deliver a fourth season of Imam Muda for the Malaysian audience, as well as being involved to market the format to other countries, in addition to developing more new ideas in various genres for the station.
