Entertainment Master ClassTHE PROGRAMME

The EMC Academy’s programme is a selective, individually tailored advanced executive education programme, accepting no more than 30 participants for each year’s Master Class.

The programme is set up to equip participants with the skills needed to create, develop, pitch, package, brand, budget, finance, produce, broadcast, distribute and protect their entertainment properties. To accomplish these goals, the programme and all the courses in it are essentially focusing on creative and strategic thinking, since the ability to think both creatively and strategically are fundamental skills to lead a creative enterprise into a competitive future. The core curriculum includes: creative development, creative organisations, design thinking, trend watching, format research, pitching psychology, casting psychology, talent management, production management, commissioning strategy, broadcast scheduling, social media, connected entertainment, branded entertainment, financing strategy, marketing strategy, distribution strategy, business negotiation, deal making, entertainment law, business ethics, social responsibility, change management, leadership communication and new media entrepreneurship.

The programme is modular in structure, consisting of 4 programme modules, each one week long, spread over one year. Each programme module comprises visionary lectures, case studies, interactive workshops, experiential labs and plenary sessions, including the “Big Picture” presentations, the “From Idea to Screen” case studies and the “Tool Kit” workshops. Group exercises and question-and-answer sessions encourage dialogue and interaction.

Personalised mentorship is an integral part of the Master Class. The programme tutors and mentors fullfil an essential role in giving the participants advice and guidance on their work and business so that they can take valuable action plans back to their companies. For the participants, peer coaching and feedback has proven to be an essential source of practical advice and business judgement.

Selected presentations and talks will be transcribed, summarised and compiled into a comprehensive programme reader written and edited by the EMC’s research assistants and programme tutors. To give the participants sustainable knowledge and continuity of experience, this programme reader and all didactic material will be made available for the participants online in their log-in area on the EMC Academy’s website. Each participant will have access to the EMC Academy’s online archive.


WHEN AND WHERE

Designed for busy professionals, this programme can be completed in one year, depending on the schedule you choose. It is designed to minimise work interruptions so participants can continue in their work and business at their companies. The 2012 programme includes 20 days of instruction and is divided into 4 weeklong residential modules, each including 5 days of instruction, spaced over the year 2012. Because learning is concentrated in 4 one-week modules, participants can take educational breaks without putting their work and business on hold. The flexible module structure allows participants the freedom to plan their own programme schedule.

THE FACULTY

The EMC Academy is built around the experience of leading practitioners in order to provide a learning experience rooted in best practice. Its creative faculty is comprised of experienced creators, pioneering entrepreneurs and business leaders from a variety of different media disciplines across the worldwide entertainment industry. THE CLASS

The concept of the EMC Academy is based on the conviction that creative thinking can be triggered when different minds who are willing to share come together in strong multidisciplinary groups. For each year’s Master Class, the EMC Academy aims to recruit a select group of participants that reflects the cultural, social and professional diversity of the worldwide entertainment business. Participants include creators, producers, commissioners, broadcasters, distributors, advertisers and financers – from small start-ups to large organisations. One of the distinct advantages of having a group of participants from a variety of different backgrounds, disciplines and businesses from all over the world is that it brings both “sellers” and “buyers” together in a truly global classroom.

Participants of the programme become members of a vast alumni network.

The alumni of the 2011 Master Class came from 20 different countries and had an average age of 36 with an average work experience of 10 years.

HOW MUCH

The participation fee for the complete 2012 programme, covering the tuition fee for all 4 modules, including didactic material, hotel accommodation and full board, is EUR 13,500. Instead of committing to the entire programme, candidates may select individual modules, mixing and matching the courses they feel are most relevant to their needs, schedules and budgets. The participation fee for one single module is EUR 4,000. Each year, the EMC Academy offers a limited number of company packages. Companies who buy one company package acquire the right to designate one participant at a time, selected by the company from among its company staff members, to participate in each of the modules. The price of one company package for the for the complete 2012 programme, covering the tuition fee for all 4 modules, including didactic material, hotel accommodation and full board, is EUR 13,500. Payment plans are available on request.
